Nelita and her daughter Mary Rose showcase their creativity during the Trade Fair.

Among the exhibitors during the trade fair organized by the Foundation during the General Assembly in December 2025 was a mother-daughter duo, showing how a microenterprise can be a family affair.

A member of the Microfinance program for nearly two years, Nelita V. Rivera, from Duran 6 Center of Nabua Branch, joined the trade fair to champion her daughter’s talent. “The primary reason I joined,” Nelita shared, “was to give my daughter, Mary Rose, the chance to show the world what she can do.” Making intricate crochet and fuzzy wire products was a business sparked by her daughter’s passion.

While her daughter decides on the design, Nelita boosts production. She has even mastered the art of making crafts using the fuzzy wires, a skill her daughter patiently taught her. This partnership ensures that every item is a true family effort.

Nelita finds the craft as a powerful stress reliever. But joining the trade fair proved to her that more than a hobby, the business can be a sustainable livelihood.

“We should support our children’s dreams,” Nelita says. “Because they might be the ones to achieve the very things we weren’t able to reach in our own time.”

Nelita serves as an inspiration, not only to micro-entrepreneurs, but also to parents who are finding a way to connect with their children. By engaging in a creative endeavor with her daughter, she is raising an entrepreneur whose talent is expressed through their products.
