A Scholar’s Vision: Innovative Agriculture

Arabella Alarma learned about the Scholarship Program through social media. A daughter of farmers, she applied to become a scholar to help her parents. She joined the program in 2022, as a student of Central Bicol State University of Agriculture- Pili Campus.

“Both of my parents are farmers. They do a lot of hard work but they don’t get the right salary for them and even the respect. Some people are discriminating against the farmers and how they live. I chose my course to help in food production, build new and innovative machinery for farming. I want to help in farming because it will save us from hunger. Through my course, it will help me to improve the efficiency of farms and agricultural enterprises as well as to ensure the sustainability of natural and renewable resources.”

“After graduating college and passing my licensure exam in engineering, I want to work as an engineer but aside from that, I want to take my masteral degree and I want to start a business that my mother dreamt of for a long time. I want to help homeless people, stray animals and farmers.

From witnessing the daily struggles of her parents to pursuing a degree in Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering, her mission is clear: to bridge the gap between innovation and traditional farming.

Through the Scholarship Program, aside from the financial aid, Alarma receives spiritual formation and undergoes apprenticeship at the Madrigal Farm in Daculang Tubig, San Fernando, Camarines Sur. These experiences allow her to turn classroom knowledge into service-orientation with real-world impact.
